Steve Heyer and Maryland College Football Days
When Steve Heyer left Brookwood High School to gain entry to a new life in college, his amateur career in football sport has already made a strong impact and already was already recognized as a strong one. Because he was seen with a bright future in football, many colleges want him in their team. These are Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, and Florida, Georgia and Clemson and many other colleges. However, he decided to get the chance with Maryland and luck was on his way, the risk was he took paid off and made him as one of the football stars in University of Maryland.
While a freshman at his college days, he already made great goals that made him stand out from other rookies like him. For a novice, it was a record to have played in all the 13 games starting one with just two penalties for the total of 178 plays for the said season. Steve Heyer has great reviews on his debut because mostly the last game of the season, the more experienced players are asked to play for the last game. This made him noticed by everyone and took note of all his accomplishments during his first year in football. He was given the most active part in the lineup of lineman position and because of this he was given the highest grade among his contemporaries. During this time he was given the chance to play for the left tackle position.
By the time that he was on his second year in college, he added more to his list of achievements. Among the greatest thing he did was when he was ranked second when the season finished. Considering that this was only his second year in the sport. It was a huge surprise that for the 737 offensive plays he did for the season, he encountered only two penalties. On his junior year, he started at left tackle all the 11 games and he was rated with the highest rated terp offensive lineman and was the rated with the highest rated lineman. However, on 2005 during his Redshirt junior, he missed playing for the year because of the issue with the anterior cruciate ligament that occurred on his left knee.
On 2006, Stephon Heyer was awarded with an honorable mention as All-ACC lineman after playing as left tackle in all of the 13 games. Being a member of the team in Champ Sports Bowl where he all started the 13 games, he was selected to play for ESPN.com All Bowl Team because of his extra ordinary performance.
